Superstars line up for Come and Try Sports Day
Sporting champions from across Australia will descend on Gatton for the Come and Try Sports Day later this month.
Dual international Wendell Sailor will be a special guest, alongside Queensland Firebirds stars Caitlyn Nevins and Kimberley Ravaillion.
Sailor represented Australia in both rugby league and rugby union and is one of the country's best-known football players.
Nevins, 28, lists her career highlight as winning the ANZ Championship trophy with the Melbourne Vixens in 2014. Twenty-two year-old Ravaillion was involved in winning Commonwealth Games Gold with the Australian Diamonds 2014 Diamonds Squad 2013/14. The Queensland Firebirds took out the coveted 2015 championship.
Hosted by Lockyer Valley Regional Council, the event will be held at Gatton's Cahill Park Sports Complex on Saturday 30 January from 8am - 12pm.
Council's Mayor Steve Jones said securing Australian sporting elite such as Sailor, Nevins and Ravaillion was a major coup for the Lockyer Valley.
To have some of our country's most renowned and highly regarded sporting stars in the region for Council's Come and Try Sports Day is a major drawcard for this event, Cr Jones said.
Wendell, Caitlyn and Kimberley are three of Australia's finest and will be only too happy to meet and greet the crowds on the day.
Sports on offer will include: rugby league, soccer, netball, AFL, taekwondo, boot-camp fitness and dancing.
The Come and Try Sports Day is designed to offer the community a platform to see first-hand just what's on offer in the region.
Council has organised this event to bring as many of the sporting groups in area together, in one location, so community members can try a sport they may be interested in or didn't know was available within the Lockyer Valley.
There will be a chance to promote sport and recreation activities, sign-on, recruit participants for your local organisation, highlight the benefits of sport and living a healthy lifestyle, Cr Jones said.
Sporting and recreation groups are welcome to register for this event by Wednesday 27 January. Cahill Park Sports Complex is located in Buaraba Street, Gatton.
