Temporary closure for Gaul Street Railway Crossing
The Gaul Street Railway Crossing in Gatton will be temporarily closed for one week to determine the likely impacts on the local road network of any future Inland Rail closure.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council will implement a temporary closure of the crossing, with traffic counters to be installed to measure the volume of traffic on alternate roads and routes.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor, Janice Holstein said the temporary closure is scheduled to begin on Friday 6 November and be completed by Friday 13 November 2020.
This temporary closure is important to help determine just what the impact on the local road network will be if Inland Rail permanently closes the Gaul Street Railway Crossing.
As a Council, we're committed to achieving the best outcome for our community and it is important to get a clearer idea as to what the longer-term impacts would look like if the proposed permanent closure by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) does go ahead.
It's vital we can best understand the impacts of this proposed closure and lobby for the appropriate mitigation,Cr Holstein said.
The closure of the railway crossing at Gaul Street is intended to take one week and will require traffic to find alternate routes from the north/south parts of Gatton.
Pedestrian access across the rail line at Gaul Street will remain open during the temporary closure.
