Upgrade of dangerous Lockyer Valley intersection complete
The upgrade of a dangerous Lockyer Valley intersection is now complete.
The intersection of Old College Road and Allan Street in Gatton was identified as a dangerous road safety Black Spot for 2015/16 and received funding of $160,000 from the Australian Government.
The intersection now boasts improved visibility, parking bays, a pedestrian refuge and additional street lighting.
Council's Mayor Tanya Milligan said the improvements were good news for the local community.
This intersection has been a dangerous problem spot for years and has seen too many serious traffic accidents.
I thank our Federal Member for Wright Scott Buchholz for working with us to secure the upgrade of this intersection.
The Old College Road and Allan Street intersection has a high volume of traffic, especially for residents on their commute to work or school, and ensuring the safety of all motorists was high on our priority list.
Without the Black Spot funding, Council would not have been able to deliver the upgrade, so we again thank Mr Buchholz for his work in securing the funding and improvements.
We are confident this will go a long way towards reducing road accidents, and ultimately road trauma, in the region, Mayor Milligan said.
This project was recommended by a panel of independent road safety experts. Work on the second Black Spot upgrade for 2015/16, the intersection of Tenthill Creek Road, Ingoldsby Road and Kreskes Road at Lower Tenthill, is expected to be completed in the coming month.
