Visit for local Food Ambassador, journalists
Lockyer Valley's Food Ambassador Alastair McLeod will be back this month to tour the region, and he won't be alone.
The celebrity chef and foodie extraordinaire, together with a group of food and travel journalists will visit with a variety of local producers and tourism operators.
The discovery trip of the Lockyer Valley is set for mid-May.
Council's Mayor Tanya Milligan said the tour, which is part of Brisbane Marketing's Regional Flavours campaign, would shine the spotlight on the region and its producers.
Our producers and growers are busily preparing for Regional Flavours, one of Australia's leading food and wine festivals, and this will no doubt provide some positive promotion before the Lockyer Valley features at this year's event.
Lockyer Valley will again sponsor the popular Picnic Patch at the festival, and along with Branell Homestead are prize sponsors for a Regional Flavours VIP competition, Cr Milligan said.
Held at Southbank on 16 and 17 July, Regional Flavours will provide the opportunity for people to enjoy the tastes of the Lockyer Valley.
The event also features world class chefs cooking up a storm, including Maggie Beer and Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan from Master Chef.
Alastair McLeod was first appointed Lockyer Valley Food Ambassador in March 2014. Alastair has made appearances for the region at the Brisbane Good Food and Wine Show, Regional Flavours, Brisbane Ekka and at the Martin Place media launch in Sydney. At each of these events, he conducted cooking demonstrations using Lockyer Valley produce while promoting the region and our producers to the audiences.
Our partnership with Alastair generates an enormous amount of opportunity to promote the region and all it has to offer, Cr Milligan said.
He was an easy choice for the role as Food Ambassador. He is a passionate supporter of all things local and has a drive for food that is undeniable.
He is a firm believer in fresh, local produce and offers the perfect platform to promote the Lockyer Valley to Queensland and beyond.
