Youth Mashup
Two dozen Lockyer District High School students representing a range of diverse cultures attended the Council-run 2016 Youth Mashup for a chance to learn how to plan a school festival.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Youth and Multicultural Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan enjoyed watching the 26 students interact and share their ideas throughout the day.
The event really opened the students' minds to teamwork and event planning, Cr Hagan said.
They have such great potential and the day focused on developing the skills to be a solution to local youth issues.
Throughout the day, students worked in teams to plan different aspects of a multicultural event, such as venues, finances, entertainment/activities, promotions, and food.
The event was facilitated by Council's Youth Development Team and included students from Grade 7 to Grade 12 at the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre.
It was funded by the Department of Social Services under the Settlement Program, which is supported by funding from the Australian Government.
