Gatton Shire Hall refurbishment works now complete
Lockyer Valley Regional Council is ready to swing open the doors to the new-look Gatton Shire Hall, following the completion of refurbishment works on the facility.
The $2.08M program, which kicked-off earlier this year, included major upgrades to the kitchen, climate control systems, foyer, roofing, electrical systems and eastern courtyard.
At today’s official opening, Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan welcomed the completion of the upgrades to one of the region’s most utilised community venues.
“Thanks to the refurbishment, we now have new front entrance doors and foyer, with new internal linings to the corridor link adjoining the auditorium.
“The facility also sports a new bar extension and refurbished kitchen with built-in cold rooms, an upgrade to the electrical and mechanical services and a refurbished stage floor.
“The eastern courtyard received an upgrade and now features a new stamped concrete surface, stair entrance and new glazed sliding doors accessing the auditorium,” Mayor Milligan said.
The project provided work for more than 100 non-Council workers, many of whom were local, including both tradespeople and apprentices.
“At the peak of construction, 80 of these positions were located on-site.
“This employment boost to our region was greatly appreciated, at a time when the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are still very real.”
The project has been jointly funded by the Australian Government and Queensland Government, in association with Lockyer Valley Regional Council.
“We extend our thanks to both the Australian and Queensland Governments for their funding support, which has allowed this project to be brought to life.
“This major renovation has not only refreshed the facility, but greatly improved the hall’s capabilities to service our growing community both now and for many years to come,” Mayor Milligan said.
Bookings for the upgraded facility will open again from 24 July 2021.
