Council provides update on Laidley Spring Festival
With continued uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, Lockyer Valley Regional Council, in consultation with community event organisers, has made the regrettable decision to cancel some aspects of the 2021 Laidley Spring Festival.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said while it was disappointing news for many of our residents, the decision was not made lightly.
“As we know only too well, the threat of COVID-19 to the community and subsequent restrictions and snap lockdowns are currently very real.
“So many of the individual aspects of the Festival are led and delivered by community groups and volunteers, and are held indoors, which means any restrictions in place at the time make it very difficult for event organisers.
“Due to the ongoing health risk and impact on our volunteers and other community groups, we felt it was necessary to make the call now and reduce the impacts of uncertainty around possible snap lockdowns,” Mayor Milligan said.
Aspects of the three-day event will proceed, including Das Neumann Haus, which will operate as per usual over September 10 – 12, including markets and music on the Friday and Saturday. Laidley District State School will host their annual Messy Play Day on Thursday 9 September and the Make It, Bake It, Grow It Markets will also be held on Saturday 11 September. Laidley Pioneer Village & Museum will be operating as usual from 9am – 2.30pm.
“We simply do not know what State Government COVID-19 restrictions will be in place in the coming weeks, which makes planning and delivering this event extremely difficult, and we understand the need for various event organisers to manage their finances wisely.
“We understand this will be difficult news for people to hear and we appreciate the understanding of all stakeholders, and our wider community,” Mayor Milligan said.
