Fairways Park, the Lockyer Valley’s new, multi-million-dollar facility at Kensington Grove is now officially open.
Thanks to funding support from the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, and from the Palaszczuk Government’s Unite and Recover Community Stimulus Package, Fairways Park is now ready for community use, despite the official opening falling victim to the recent lockdown.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said having an all-abilities park in our region was a major asset.
“This is a wonderful moment for our region and recognises the growth we are seeing here in the Lockyer Valley.
“We are proud of the significant community input into this project and look forward to it being well utilised and enjoyed by all ages and abilities,” Mayor Milligan said.
The Australian Government Building Better Regions Fund support for Fairways Park (Stage 1a) involved the construction of a multi-element playground with picnic facilities and public amenities, footpaths and landscaping for community and visitors to enjoy.
Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz said the park was an example of all levels of government working together to deliver better infrastructure for a fast-growing community.
“Through the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF) the Morrison Government is investing $800,000 towards stage one of the Fairways Park.
“This is a fast-growing area, attracting young families and new green space is warmly welcomed by all. It is fantastic to see this project come through with support from all levels of government and the community.
“This is good news for local residents and for people across the entire Lockyer Valley, I want to congratulate all those people who have their fingerprints on this project,” Mr Buchholz said.
Stages 1b,1c and 1d are funded by the Palaszczuk Government’s Unite and Recover Community Stimulus Package.
Assistant Minister for Local Government Nikki Boyd said the Palaszczuk Government’s Unite and Recover Community Stimulus Package was delivering for communities like the Lockyer Valley.
“This is a great investment by the Palaszczuk Government in Fairways Park, contributing to the construction of a multi-million-dollar facility,” Assistant Minister Boyd said.
“Our investment will deliver a learn to ride course with imitation road signage, pump tracks, dog park, nature play elements, shelters, barbecues and more as part of Queensland’s plan for economic recovery.
“Investments like this help to build up communities with better council infrastructure and more jobs for locals.”
Mayor Milligan said the project provided a welcomed financial boost to a range of industries, at a time when the lingering global pandemic was still very real.
“Over the course of the construction period, contractors were engaged for more than 13,000 hours which provided a notable employment boost across a range of occupations.
“This is the first time our community has been involved in a park design from the very beginning and we extend our thanks to all levels of Government for the funding support they have provided to this project, which will benefit our community for many years to come,” Mayor Milligan said.
