Council urges community to roll up their sleeves
Lockyer Valley Regional Council is urging residents to roll up and protect the ones they love after securing a Pfizer Vaccination Hub for their community.
Teaming up with West Moreton Health and Darling Downs & West Moreton PNH to deliver the COVID-19 Pfizer Vaccination Hub, Lockyer Valley Mayor Cr Tanya Milligan said residents could arm themselves with a shot from next week.
“Council has been advocating for easily accessible immunisations to be made available to residents and the arrival of these vaccination hubs will bring a dose of hope to our community,” Mayor Milligan said.
“It’s a fantastic way to extend on the vaccination services currently being provided by our local GP’s, who are struggling to meet our region’s demands.
“The temporary Pfizer Vaccination Hubs have been tailored specifically to address our regions patchy access to appointments and cater for marginalised groups.”
Lockyer Valley Regional Council are leaving no page unturned, engaging with community stakeholders to ensure all residents can safeguard themselves against the virus.
“Council staff are continually engaging with community stakeholders and are working to ensure our entire region, including backpackers, seasonal workers, those forced from their homes and those with communication barriers are also aware of the hub,” Mayor Milligan said.
“These groups, who are often most at risk, can sometimes be an oversight with targeted vaccination hubs, and we want to ensure they’re getting the tools they need to protect themselves.”
Residents without a Medicare card, including farm workers and those not born in Australia, will also be eligible for the free vaccination.
Noting that immunisation is our pathway to freedom, Mayor Milligan said the region hit breaking point during the last lockdown, when they were forced to stay home despite having poor access to vaccinations.
“To lock us at home, disrupt our lives, but not give us access to the vaccine seemed absurd to me, so Council took matters into their own hands and went knocking for assistance,” Mayor Milligan said.
“The noise didn’t fall on deaf ears, and we’re stoked that West Moreton Health and Darling Downs & West Moreton PNH have stepped up to the plate to deliver this vital service.
“Vaccination is the answer to moving on with our lives, and I’m relieved to know our residents can now aid in this process by rolling up their sleeves.
“By arming our community with vaccines, we prevent the risk of continued outbreaks and keep our families, friends and community safe.”
