Lockyer Valley Regional Council will shine a spotlight on mental health when it hosts the Lockyer Valley Community Wellbeing Day next month.
Sponsored by the Palaszczuk Government’s Localised Mental Health Initiative and the jointly-funded Australian and Queensland Governments’ Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements 2018 – the event will ramp up the region’s ongoing commitment to providing a safe, connected and inclusive community.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the free community event would be held as part of Mental Health Week celebrations across the region.
“This event is all about providing a range of fun and informative activities that engage our community to build resilience and promote self-care at a local level,” Mayor Milligan said.
“In the past 11 years, our community has dealt with several major floods, drought, bushfires and COVID, and sometimes we miss the signs that we, or our friends, are feeling the cumulative effects.
“Community events like this one give us a chance to reconnect in a positive, supportive environment and learn extra ways to look after our family and friends.
“I encourage residents of all ages, cultural backgrounds and abilities to join in on the fun.”
From 10am – 3pm there will be information stalls, activities, music, a free sausage sizzle and giveaways, while from 4pm – 6pm, BYO picnic blanket or camp chair, relax on the lawn and enjoy free live music in the park.
Fans of local musician, Rebecca Lee Nye can be treated to her music from 4pm on the lawn.
The Lockyer Valley Community Wellbeing Day will be hosted by Lockyer Valley Regional Council, in conjunction with Anglicare Southern Queensland, Carer’s QLD, Domestic Violence Action Centre, EACH, Headspace, Kambu, Laidley Community Centre, Laidley Crisis Care and Accommodation Services, Lockyer Community Centre, Lifeline, Lives Lived Well and Neami National.
