It’s Get Ready Queensland Week and Lockyer Valley Regional Council wants to know – are YOU ready?
From fires to floods, storms or other natural disasters, Lockyer Valley Mayor Cr Tanya Milligan urged the Lockyer Valley community to Get Ready now because disasters really can strike at any time.
To mark Get Ready Queensland Week, Council has launched a series of videos focused on preparing our animals for a disaster.
Thanks to funding from the Get Ready Queensland program administered through the Queensland Reconstruction Authority, Council has produced two Animals in Disasters videos designed to put the spotlight on the safety of our beloved pets and animals.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said having a ‘What if’ plan could be the difference between staying safe or putting yourself and your family in danger.
“Our animals are important, and our pets are loved members of our family so when emergencies like disasters occur, you want to keep them safe.
“The best process for keeping your animals safe and well during emergencies is to have a well-made plan and prepare in advance.
“Your plan needs to consider all likely natural disasters for your area including storms, floods, bushfires and heatwaves and it’s also important to consider how those different events might affect your pet’s health and safety, your evacuation routes and end destinations,” Mayor Milligan said.
Get Ready Queensland Week will bring attention to a variety of topics, such as the importance of an Emergency Plan, Evacuation Plan, preparing your home, your car and the importance of tuning into warnings.
“Our ability to bounce back is something Queenslanders are known for.
“No matter what Mother Nature throws our way, we come out the other side stronger,” Mayor Milligan said.
Get Ready Queensland Week runs from 10 – 17 October 2021.
