Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s 2022 Australia Day recipients were gifted a stunning timber wall plaque to mark their achievements, all thanks to the expertise of the women at the Southern Queensland Correctional Centre (SQCC).
Council and SQCC have once again joined forces in this yearly tradition, all to the benefit of this year’s recipients.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Councillor Tanya Milligan said Council engaged the expertise of the women, who were involved in designing and creating this year’s gifts for the awards, which took the place of the usual medallions.
“The wall plaques were very well received by the recipients and their families at the 2022 Australia Day Award and Citizenship Ceremony.
“The plaque can be displayed proudly in their homes or place of business and will no doubt serve as a reminder of the significance of their awards.
“It really demonstrates what a great partnership we have as a Council with the women at the prison.
“Working with community organisations is a passion for us as a Council and something we’re constantly looking to build on.
“Partnerships such as these bring extensive benefits to both the community and Council and this is a perfect example of that,” Mayor Milligan said.
