SES volunteers at the Forest Hill SES Group today took ownership of a new vehicle, a Mitsubishi Triton GLX Dual Cab, all thanks to the continued support of Lockyer Valley Regional Council and the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan, who also holds Council’s Disaster Management Portfolio, said this was a great example of the relationship that exists between Council and the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES).
“This project has come about thanks to joint funding from Council and QFES (SES Support Grants) and has enabled our local volunteers to receive a new vehicle to support our community when they need it most.
“The unwavering support of the SES during times of need really shows how important they are to the region and, as our community grows and more people take residence in the Lockyer Valley, it’s essential those in need are helped.
“These volunteers selflessly give their time to the local community to respond to incidents including severe storms, flooding and other disaster-related incidents and we are so incredibly proud of, and grateful for the service and support they provide to our region,” Mayor Milligan said.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (South West Region) Area Controller, Ian Phipps, said the SES was always on the look-out for volunteers from across a wide range of backgrounds to join their local SES.
“We currently have 12 members in Forest Hill and a total of 45 across the Lockyer Valley, and we are always seeking additional volunteers from across a wide range of backgrounds to join their local SES.
“Our volunteers are dedicated individuals who constantly go above and beyond to put the safety of their community as a priority, and as the region’s growth continues, so too will the important role of the SES and this vehicle will play an important part in ensuring we can meet the growing needs of our communities,” Ian said.
