Mentoring for Grant Writing and Community Workshop Programs
There’s still time for the region’s not-for-profit community groups, associations and clubs to sign up for two innovative mentoring programs, currently on offer from Lockyer Valley Regional Council.
Council is offering the initiatives, designed to support and further develop grant writing skills, to Lockyer Valley community groups and committees to develop and strengthen skills and have greater success when applying for grants.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the programs were focused on providing groups with access to experienced local mentors.
“Our local mentors have knowledge in successful grant writing and online training, and this is an opportunity for our local groups to have access to this knowledge in a one-on-one setting.
“Many of our local groups may be wanting to access flood recovery funding or grants, to allow them to prepare for future opportunities and challenges and this is a great opportunity to ensure they polish their skills and put their best foot forward.
“Community groups are the backbone of the Lockyer Valley – they’re made up of some of our most dedicated and selfless community members who work tirelessly to see the Lockyer Valley continue to grow and prosper.
“It is essential for these groups to have the skills they need to develop a successful application,” Mayor Milligan said.
Council will fund a mentor to work one-on-one with a group when applying for up to two (2) different grants and one (1) acquittal, providing participants valuable skills in grant writing. The community group will be able to retain these best practice grant applications as templates for future submissions.
Adding to what’s already on offer, Council’s Community Workshops Program allows local community groups the avenue to participate in online courses to improve the group’s grant-writing and operational capabilities. The focus of the workshops is to provide the opportunity for community groups to function cohesively and to generate more income, with successful applicants to be reimbursed for the course fees upon successful completion.
Three online courses are also available for not-for-profit community organisations to help them function and flourish. Courses include:
- Step in, Step up - Understanding your committee member role.
- WTF – Where’s the Funding? Understanding the range of fundraising opportunities available.
- Win More Grants - Getting your group’s share of the $80 billion in grant funding that’s given out annually.
