New citizens welcomed
Lockyer Valley Regional Council officiated the pledges of 14 conferees who took up Australian Citizenship at eight individual sessions at the Council Chambers yesterday.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said it was a privilege to become an Australian Citizen, and one that should not be taken lightly.
“Citizenship Ceremonies hold a special place for me as Mayor, and it is a wonderful honour to be with you as you start this exciting new chapter in your lives.
“Hearing your stories – from where you came from to be here – is incredibly moving.
“We warmly welcome you, our new residents to our region and community and look forward to sharing the beauty of the Lockyer Valley with you as ‘home’,” Mayor Milligan said.
The Lockyer Valley’s newest citizens came from a range of nationalities, including India, Vietnam, Taiwan, Nepal, Kenya, Philippines and Solomon Islands.
