Following the second significant rain event to hit the Lockyer Valley this year, Lockyer Valley Regional Council has approved a raft of measures to aid businesses and residents as the clean-up continues.
Council will coordinate kerbside clean-up of residential and small business flood debris until Monday 13 June. Customers outside main town centres will need to register with Council once their debris is ready for collection by calling 1300 005 872.
Additionally, domestic and small business flood waste will be accepted without charge at all waste facilities in the region in the designated skip bins. Vehicles larger than 4.5 tonne (GVM), and those who would prefer to empty flood waste onto the ground, must use the Laidley or Gatton transfer stations only.
The flood waste waiver will apply until Monday 13 June. Non-flood waste and commercial waste is subject to Council’s standard fees and conditions.
Members of the 11th Engineer Regiment from Gallipoli Barracks are currently in the region, assisting with clearing flood debris from homes, businesses and the kerbside.
The troops will commence work in Laidley and work their way out from there. This two-day deployment will assist with the initial clean-up of the worst-affected areas and is in response to Council's request for a range of ADF support types.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan commended the Lockyer Valley community for their unwavering resilience.
“It has been utterly gut-wrenching to see our region hit with yet another devastating blow – the second this year.
“We’ve done it before and we’ll do it again but please, be kind to yourself – mental health and wellbeing is so important in trying times.
“If you need help, please, reach out to others and let’s look after one another,” Mayor Milligan said.
