Celebrate the reopening of the Gatton Skatepark!
Thanks to funding from the Australian Government, the Gatton Skatepark has undergone a major expansion – and you’re invited to join in the official reopening celebrations!
To mark the occasion, Lockyer Valley Regional Council, together with the Australian Skateboarding Community Initiative will celebrate the reopening of the Skatepark by hosting a Regional Skateboard Competition – a direct pathway into the pro championship Rumble on the Reef - on Saturday 18 June.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the competition was open to local, regional and interstate competitors over the age of nine.
“This free family event will be sure to deliver a day of fun and excitement for everyone.
“We’re inviting everyone to come along and enjoy a DJ, food stalls and some of the most talented young skateboarders, who I’m sure will capitalise on every inch of the newly-upgraded facility,” Mayor Milligan said.
Council was successful in securing grant funding from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCIP), to bring a host of upgrades to the facility to life.
Mayor Milligan said the upgrades totalled more than $500,000 and included the addition of a bowl section, as well as grind rails, a half pipe and a quarter pipe.
“The upgrades also included the addition of night lighting to allow users of the facility to skate into the evening.
“The significant upgrades that were completed to the facility were made possible thanks to funding secured from the Commonwealth Government and we thank our Federal Member Scott Buchholz MP for his support in securing this funding.
“The improvements will allow our local youth to continue their enjoyment of skateboarding, scootering and BMX – which not only provide great exercise, but social opportunities too.
“Competitors are expected from as far afield as the Sunshine Coast and northern NSW and we can’t wait to see them make full use of the new state-of-the-art elements, which have doubled the size and features of the overall skatepark.
“The upgrades to this facility are outstanding and it is fitting we can celebrate by hosting a skateboarding competition that is of regional significance,” Mayor Milligan said.
Registrations open from 11am, with formalities to get underway at 11.20m and competition to begin at 11.30am. To register, visit https://liveheats.com/events/9426
