Don’t forget to come along to the Gatton Skatepark reopening
Don’t forget to come along to the official reopening celebrations for the Gatton Skatepark next weekend!
The Gatton Skatepark recently underwent a major expansion thanks to funding from the Australian Government and to celebrate, Council, together with the Australian Skateboarding Community Initiative will host a Regional Skateboard Competition.
It’s all happening on Saturday 18 June and Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the free family event would be one not to miss.
“The competition is open to local, regional and interstate competitors over the age of nine.
“We’re inviting everyone to come along and enjoy a DJ, food stalls and some of the most talented young skateboarders, who I’m sure will capitalise on every inch of the newly-upgraded facility.
“We currently have competitors registered from Cronulla and Lennox Heads in NSW, and Gladstone, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Townsville from our own State.
“I would certainly encourage interested parties to get their registrations in now to be a part of this great event,” Mayor Milligan said.
Council was successful in securing grant funding from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCIP) to bring the $500,000 makeover to life.
Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz said the new upgrade, funded in partnership with the Council and the Federal Government will provide the region with an impressive community facility for years to come.
"I want to congratulate the council on delivering such a fantastic project for the region, which will provide another community space in the Lockyer Valley for families to enjoy,
"The new skatepark and other projects in the Lockyer Valley, funded under the LRCI is about investing in the local community to build better infrastructure, support the local community and make the Lockyer Valley the best place to live".
Registrations open from 11am, with formalities to get underway at 11.20am and competition to begin at 11.30am. To register, visit https://liveheats.com/events/9426
