Council committed to securing funding for region’s community halls
Community halls are important facilities across the Lockyer Valley, which is why Council continues to work hard behind-the-scenes to secure funding for important upgrades.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said most community halls belong to local communities and are managed by local committees, not Council.
“Our hard-working hall committees rely on funding to maintain and operate the halls to provide important benefits to their local areas.
“Council shares responsibility with local community groups, other levels of government and the community in supporting a wide range of social and sporting groups.
“That is why local hall committees have received $827,534 through the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) and Council in the past 12 months, with a further $781,800 in funding expected in the year ahead.
“However, the benefits are far more than just what’s invested in these important facilities.
“With community groups engaging local contractors, where possible, for the building upgrades, these projects have provided an ongoing boost to the local economy at a time when it has been needed most.
“I commend the hall committees for keeping these halls alive and encourage the whole community to make use of them by attending events and hiring them for functions, which help raise much-needed funds for ongoing maintenance,” Mayor Milligan said.
