Treatment wraps up at Laidley Recreation Grounds

It’s all systems go at the Laidley Recreation Grounds – with the final stages of treatment now wrapped up and the facility reopening to the public from today.

As a safety precaution following the May weather event, Council engaged an independent company to test the bacteria levels at the Laidley Recreation Reserve fields, which were subsequently determined to be unsafe.

The fields were largely inundated by flood waters and, as a result, remained closed since the event to ensure public safety.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Deputy Mayor and Sport and Recreation Portfolio Councillor, Jason Cook said Council had undertaken a range of treatment on the fields.

“Acceptable bacteria levels for recreational grounds are 2400 MPN (most probable number), however most of the fields/grounds were more than 30,000 MPN, which is more than 12 times the acceptable amount.

“As a result, two treatments were conducted to the fields and grassed areas, conducted seven days apart.

“The walking paths around the fields, the netball hard courts and surrounding pathways were also professionally cleaned to remove any remaining silt.

“Staff and contractors have been prioritising the treatment in changing weather conditions to get local sports back up and running and it is wonderful news that the fields are reopening as planned from today.

“Council appreciates the patience and understanding of the community throughout this process,” Cr Cook said.
