Council to hand down 2022/23 Budget

Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s 2022/23 Budget will be handed down on 20 July and the community can expect Council to deliver a responsible Budget that is focused on both securing the region’s financial security and ensuring the expectations of our fast-growing community are factored in.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the upcoming Budget was strongly influenced by the challenging times we’re currently experiencing.

“It has undeniably been a difficult past 12 months for so many of our residents.

“We’ve battled through several natural disasters, the continued impacts of COVID-19 and the rising cost of living.

“All the while, our region is growing, and we have to meet the expectations from our community for a wide range of services needed to meet the needs of our expanding population.

“We’re no longer just a rural community – we have an increasing portion of the community moving here with aspirations for city-level services,” she said.

Mayor Milligan said Council also had to factor in CPI increases, without placing undue stress on the community.

“Council is not immune to the impacts of CPI, and has to pay for rising fuel, utilities, materials and contractor costs.

“Council is absorbing as much as possible, without reducing service standards or adding any undue burden to the community.

“Our region has experienced unprecedented increases in land valuations, and we have done our best to moderate the impacts for as many residents as possible.

“As councillors, it’s our job to ensure we make the right decisions, so the community receives value for money.

“We firmly believe this Budget meets the community’s needs, is responsible for the here and now and, importantly, positions us well for the future,” Mayor Milligan said.
