Council to use FOGO compost to mark National Tree Day
Lockyer Valley Regional Council will mark National Tree Day and a special milestone for Council’s Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) Trial for the Lockyer Valley community with a joint celebration, and Council is inviting you to be a part of it!
Lockyer Valley Deputy Mayor and Waste Portfolio Councillor, Jason Cook said trial participants and the wider community are invited to come along to Lake Apex, Gatton on Thursday 28 July 2022 from 10am – 11.30am.
“We’ve decided to mark National Tree Day, which is celebrated on 31 July, by inviting our FOGO trial participants to witness the first batch of FOGO community-generated compost being used on a community garden.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the community’s effort in partnering with Council to create a local solution to a global problem by diverting waste from landfill, which is great for both the environment and operating costs.
“We’ve reached the 48-week benchmark of the FOGO trial, which is a wonderful outcome, and we want to celebrate its success with the wider community.
“Moving forward, we certainly hope to utilise FOGO compost in other community spaces across the region,” Cr Cook said.
Cr Cook said Council would review the outcomes of the Trial after the 12-month period and determine what the service looks like moving forward across the region, and welcomed the benchmark milestone and success of the initiative to date.
Council’s FOGO trial is funded by the Queensland Government.
