Top accolade for local attraction
The Lockyer Valley’s very own Queensland Tourism Museum (QTM) recently received a top industry accolade.
The QTM was recognised as a 'Best of Queensland Experience' for 2022. With the impressive score of 95 out of a possible 100, the facility came in ahead of the Queensland-average score of 88.
The museum was critiqued across several categories, including consistent experience delivery, having an active and engaging social media presence and membership support of the regional tourism body, Southern Queensland Country Tourism.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the facility was commended on its commitment to delivering an exceptional visitor experience.
“The QTM is a unique facility that engages transport enthusiasts of all ages, and one we are very grateful to call our own.
“The museum is home to an extensive display of transport vehicles, from the Volvo Globetrotter cabover to the original Mack furniture truck, as well as display cabinets brimming with models.
“The dedicated team takes great pride in ensuring museum exhibits are ever-changing and each new visit takes you on a new adventure,” she said.
Mayor Milligan also encouraged car clubs in South East Queensland to make the QTM a weekend club run destination.
“Just an hour out of Brisbane, the QTM is perfectly positioned for a club run – there’s plenty of parking, an onsite café, a beautiful lake walk to get some fresh air and a guided tour can be offered to groups that book ahead.
“If you haven't already, make sure you schedule in your visit to us soon.
“There’s no doubt the tourism industry has shouldered a considerable burden throughout the pandemic and it’s wonderful to see it building back, and even better the Lockyer Valley is a part of that,” Mayor Milligan said.
As with other tourism attractions in the Lockyer Valley, volunteers are key to the operation of the QTM.
“QTM volunteers are invaluable as tour guides - they help with vehicle movements and displays, and we welcome our volunteers on-stand at consumer shows to talk about the QTM and why people should visit.
“Anyone looking to volunteer at the QTM can pop into the Visitor Information Centre, which is open seven days a week and speak with one of the friendly team or telephone (07) 5466 3425 to find out more,” Mayor Milligan said.
