Lockyer Valley Regional Council has hosted its first group Citizenship Ceremony since the pandemic began.
The ceremony saw individuals and families receive their Citizenship in a special ceremony conducted by Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan alongside fellow councillors.
Mayor Milligan officiated the pledges of 41 conferees, who took up Australian Citizenship, and said it was a privilege to do so.
“Choosing to become an Australian Citizen is an important expression of commitment to Australia, with the ceremony itself often representing the final step in the journey for many new Australians.
“It was wonderful for our conferees to open up about where they originated from, and why they made the Lockyer Valley their home.
“The smiles on the faces of all our new citizens when they received their citizenship was incredibly moving and spoke to the emotions behind the day,” she said.
The Lockyer Valley’s newest citizens came from a range of nationalities, including Denmark, USA, Italy, Latvia, Taiwan, Canada, Cambodia and Bangladesh.
