Council is “getting ready” now

The Lockyer Valley knows the impacts of natural disasters all too well, and that’s why Lockyer Valley Regional Council is monitoring seasonal forecasts closely in the hope that while wetter than average spring conditions are forecast, further flood events don’t impact our community.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said it is vital the community be prepared for whatever Mother Nature brings our way.

“Our team reviews disaster management plans, preparations, responses and recovery both as business-as-usual and following disaster events.

“This is to ensure we identify opportunities for improvement, and we’re encouraging all residents to adopt a similar approach to disaster readiness.

“The plans we make before a disaster strikes really do make all the difference during an event,” Mayor Milligan said.

Another vital component of being prepared is having an emergency plan.

“We are telling our community to make sure they have an emergency plan.

“Make sure everyone who resides in your house knows where it is located and practice it regularly.

“Preparing your home ahead of the severe weather season can help minimise the impact of flooding, as well as the stress on you and your loved ones.

“While conducting general home maintenance can drastically reduce the impact of flooding, contacting your insurer to discuss your policy and ensuring you are appropriately covered can make a world of difference during disaster recovery,” she said.
