Council acknowledges long-serving employees

Forty-seven Lockyer Valley Regional Council employees with more than 600 years' combined service have been recognised by Council.

This year marked a milestone for a host of employees, who were acknowledged for reaching 10, 15, 20, 25 and 35 years’ service.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan commended Council's employees on their efforts and work ethic.

“This is a remarkable achievement and something both our employees, and Council as an employer, can be proud of.

“To have so many employees who are sticking around and really enjoying the work they do is great to see,” she said.

Information Management Advisor Trevor Greaves, who has just ticked over 20 years’ service with Council, praised the wide range of career opportunities available in local government.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to work in Information Management, Customer Service and Events throughout my career.

“Employees work so closely with the community, and it is extremely satisfying to be able to assist residents and visitors to the Lockyer Valley region,” he said.

While changes in technology have proven challenging, Trevor said one thing has remained constant.

“Working with great people – that has never changed,” he said.

This year marked 16 years with Council for ICT Systems Administrator Rodd Young, whose past career saw him deployed operationally overseas while working in Defence and working with Boeing.

He works by the motto, “leave things better than you found it” and attributes his working environment and friendships, both within the organisation and his team, as key to his longevity.

“Good teamwork and support, both from your colleagues and Manager, is essential in an organisation’s ability to retain employees,” he said.

“Over time, Councils have begun to adapt to public expectations in the way we do business with them in the technology space.

“Having the ability and willingness to adapt to change has become more apparent as local governments become a little more ‘risk tolerant’ in our adoption of newer technology, particularly as younger staff come to Council who are a lot more ‘tech savvy’.

“Lockyer Valley Regional Council is a great place to work and the region is a great place to live,” Rodd said.
