Council staff raise more than $1000 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Wearing pops of pink throughout the month of October proved to be hugely successful for staff at Lockyer Valley Regional Council, who proudly raised more than $1000 for Breast Cancer Awareness Month through their internal fundraising efforts.

Council staff donated a gold coin each time they sported pink throughout the month to support efforts to combat the impacts of the insidious disease.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said Council staff undertook a suite of initiatives throughout October to raise funds and awareness for the important cause.

“Thanks to the generosity of our staff, the money raised has been donated directly to the Ipswich Hospital Foundation who will use it to make a real difference within our community.

“As a Council, partnerships such as these are at the core of what we do and we’re proud of our staff for continually giving back to our region.

“Fundraising initiatives like these really do matter.

“Sadly, breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Australian women outside of non-melanoma skin cancer.

“I urge residents, including men, to educate themselves more about breast awareness – it really could save your life,” Mayor Milligan said.
