Draft Planning Scheme approved for State Interest Review
At a Special Meeting held today, Council approved the submission of the Draft Lockyer Valley Planning Scheme to the State Government for the purposes of State Interest Review.
State Interest Review is a mandatory and statutory process Council must follow when developing a new planning scheme and will be conducted by the Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning, the Hon Steven Miles.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s Planning and Development Portfolio Councillor, Rick Vela said the Planning Scheme is Council’s strategic land use document with the purpose of guiding the future growth and development of the region.
“State Interest Review is a process where the State Government reviews the Draft Planning Scheme to ensure State interests are reflected and once this occurs, the Minster can approve the Draft Planning Scheme to undergo public consultation.
“At this point, Council can then undertake community engagement, which we anticipate will occur in the first half of 2023.
“However, the Draft Planning Scheme is not a public document until such time as the Minister has provided approval for the Draft Scheme to commence public consultation.
“Council has prepared a comprehensive engagement strategy to deliver public consultation and looks forward to talking to the community about the new regional Planning Scheme at that time,” Cr Vela said.
