Council staff raise more than $2,000 for men’s health
Lockyer Valley Regional Council's Mo Bros and generous supporters have raised more than $2,000 for men’s health as part of Movember!
‘The Valley Mo Bros’ smashed their $500 target out of the park, with the final tally receiving an extra boost thanks to a Movember staff morning tea last week.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan thanked the men who parked their razors and grew moustaches during the month of November to help this great cause.
“These staff have not only raised money but also awareness of the major health issues facing men, and for that they should be very proud,” she said.
“To quadruple their original target is an amazing result, and I can’t wait to see if we can beat this impressive tally next year.”
From humble beginnings in Melbourne in 2003 - where the idea was born between two mates in a Fitzroy bar - Movember has grown to become a truly global movement, with 21 countries taking part in 2021.
Originally supporting prostate cancer as its cause, Movember has evolved to invest in the four critical health areas confronting men across the world: mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
“Helping men live happier, healthier and longer lives is important to us all,” Mayor Milligan said.
“I am immensely proud of all the fundraising efforts Council takes part in throughout the year, and I applaud our hairy helpers who grew whiskers and wonderful staff who continue to donate generously to these worthy causes.”
Movember donations are used to generate awareness of men’s health issues and to invest in vital men’s health initiatives, with $1.4B raised for men’s health since 2003.
