Council staff raise more than $7,000 for charities in 2022
Small gestures of kindness have well and truly added up, with Lockyer Valley Regional Council staff raising more than $7,000 for charities last year.
In 2022 alone, Council staff raised $7,300 for a host of initiatives, including donating food, clothing, school supplies and women’s sanitary items for those in need of assistance in our community.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said it was a wonderful effort and thanked all the generous employees who supported, helped organise the fundraising, or actively took part in charity challenges throughout the year.
“Here at Council we pride ourselves on being active community members in support of worthwhile causes, because our community does matter,” Mayor Milligan said.
“We grew moustaches for Movember, donated a gold coin every time we donned pink during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with proceeds going directly to the Lockyer Valley Cancer Support Group and the local Hospital Foundation, and we set ourselves running or walking challenges in aid of lifesaving heart disease research for the Heart Foundation.
“We donated non-perishable items to our local Leukaemia Foundation pantry drive that were turned into Christmas hampers to support affected families, and as part of our 2022 ‘Share the Dignity’ drive, staff gifted $500 worth of female personal care items to the Gatton Adventist Community Centre, which were made into care packages.”
In addition, Council staff bought hundreds of raffle tickets, donated a gold coin every time they wore jeans on Fridays, and hosted bake sales to bolster their fundraising tallies.
“The Lockyer Veterans Cricket Club was the beneficiary of our annual International Women’s Day Breakfast fundraiser, and we chose to donate the money raised through our 2022 ‘Friday Jeans’ initiative to local not-for-profit charity Lady Cilento Plants, whose crafters lovingly handmake items for people and children in hospital,” Mayor Milligan said.
“All in all, more than 10 local and national initiatives benefited from our fundraising efforts in 2022 - and here’s to raising even more in 2023!”
Mayor Milligan also praised the community for its resilience during what was a trying 2022.
“I would like to thank the Lockyer Valley community for banding together and supporting one another during the tough times experienced last year,” she said.
“I am immensely proud of what our Council and our community has achieved throughout 2022 and look forward with optimism to a happy and wonderful 2023!”
