Council adopts Biosecurity Surveillance Program

Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s three-year Biosecurity Surveillance Program was authorised by Council at the January Ordinary Meeting.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council has proactively implemented the Program in accordance with the Biosecurity Act 2014 to address the region’s biosecurity matters in a more constructive, ethical and legal manner.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council Environment Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said Council was committed to taking a proactive approach in this important space.

“The Biosecurity Plan aims to bring together Council and the community to better manage pest animals and invasive plants within the Lockyer Valley region and with the adoption of a Surveillance Program, Council will be directing our resources to the more sensitive areas, allowing us to develop processes for corresponding with the community in improving social, economic and environmental values.

“Progress data is recorded throughout these programs which is crucial to ongoing project development and reviewing internal objectives that reduce future risks.

“Overall, it is a coordinated proactive approach for improving the wellbeing of our region and protecting unique assets for future generations,” Cr Hagan said.
