Council crews complete emergent works following May floods
The emergent works phase of recovery from the May 2022 weather event is now complete, with more than 70 per cent of the first phase of roadworks undertaken.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s infrastructure crews will now move their focus to the Reconstruction of Essential Public Assets (REPA) program.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor, Janice Holstein said a funding submission was lodged with the Queensland Reconstruction Authority for the value of $4.3M.
“The designs for restoration works for the landslips at Litfins Bridge, East Egypt Road, Berlin Road and Mountain View Road are continuing, including risk assessment, cost estimates and specifications for the construction tender.
“The Fred Thomas pedestrian bridge at Withcott is currently being procured, while works on Woolshed Creek floodway have also commenced.
“All sealed and unsealed zone-grouped submissions have been lodged and preparation of the funding submission for unsealed roads in other maintenance zones is nearing completion.
“Under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), jointly funded between the Commonwealth and State governments, we are working towards a two-year timeframe to return our road network to a pre-event condition.
“We appreciate the DRFA funding support for our road network assets following natural disasters as that reduces the financial impact to residents.
“We understand everyone would like their most-used road to be repaired first, we need to attend to major road safety and access issues in order of priority.
“We’re urging the community to please be patient, as there are many areas for crews to get to and it will take some time,” Cr Holstein said.
