Busy times at Lockyer Valley Art Gallery
The Lockyer Valley Art Gallery has just welcomed one of its highest number of monthly visitors through the doors since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic!
More than 1800 visitors walked through the doors in the month of February, Lockyer Valley Regional Council Community Facilities Portfolio Councillor, Michael Hagan said.
“Obviously, physical visits dropped due to COVID-19 restrictions and the closure of library facilities and the art gallery, so it is wonderful to see we are almost back to pre-pandemic numbers.
“Our Art Gallery is a thriving exhibition space where visitors can experience works by local, emerging and established Australian artists.
“We welcomed around 16,000 visitors through the doors in 2022.
“On top of that, more than 180 people came through the doors when the Gatton Library opened on Saturday 4 March for its first Saturday morning service of the recently endorsed six-month trial.
“Lockyer Valley Libraries ceased offering a Saturday library service during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, however a recent Library Customer Survey highlighted that 56 per cent of respondents were eager to see the library reopen on Saturday.
“We are thrilled to see this service embraced by so many families and individuals in our region.
“We recognised that operating solely Monday to Friday does present some barriers for our library members, so it’s great to see the library doors swing open six days a week and we hope the trend continues!” Cr Hagan said.
Following completion of the trial, consideration will be given to the Laidley Library operating hours.
