VMS boards now active on Warrego Highway
If you frequented the Warrego Highway over the Easter break, you may have noticed new fixed Variable Message Signs (VMS) are now located at both Hatton Vale and Withcott.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the VMS would form part of Council’s disaster preparedness and response suite of tools.
“The VMS form part of Council’s commitment to improve communication with the traveling public, enhance safety, and promote greater situational awareness among motorists,” she said.
The VMS will be used for a variety of messages, including:
- Incidents/Hazards in Disaster Operations
- Other Incidents/Hazards
- Community Safety
- Disaster Preparedness Campaigns
- Regional Information and Major Events
“The VMS allow us to notify the thousands of motorists on the Warrego Highway each day of potential hazards and risks that may impact their journey, while also bring their attention to practical actions they can take to be better prepared for severe weather emergencies.
“Promotion of events will be minimal and limited to those events Council deems of high significance and the VMS will remain blank between messages, to ensure maximum impact when they are in use.
“Overall, this is another tool in our belt to help protect yourself, your loved ones and your property from the threat of dangerous weather and hazards,” Mayor Milligan said.
Assistance for this project was provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
