National Simultaneous Storytime
Lockyer Valley Libraries will participate in National Simultaneous Storytime later this month.
The event, to be held at the Gatton Library on Wednesday 24 May, is an annual campaign by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) that encourages young children to read and enjoy books.
Every year, a picture book – written and illustrated by an Australian author – is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, homes, children’s facilities and early childhood education and care services all over the country.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Community Services Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said National Simultaneous Storytime was a great opportunity for connection.
“There is something truly amazing about knowing that all over our country, at the same time, people are coming together to share a story.
“This year, we’re looking forward to reading The Speedy Sloth by Rebecca Young and Heath McKenzie.
“National Simultaneous Storytime is an inspiring concept that encourages story time activities in libraries and communities.
“Lockyer Valley Libraries looks forward to participating in this extremely important event, which promotes a lifelong love of reading and literature,” Cr Hagan said.
National Simultaneous Storytime will be held at the Gatton Library on Wednesday 24 May, 10.30am for 11am start.
