A major piece of community infrastructure in Withcott has just received an upgrade, all thanks to a funding boost from the Australian Government.
Parking and accessibility at Springbrook Park, located at the Withcott Sporting Complex is now safer – and better than ever following successful funding from the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.
The Springbrook Park upgrade project was jointly funded by the Australian Government and Lockyer Valley Regional Council. Australian Government funding of $450,000 was provided through the LRCI Program. This program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia.
Works are now complete, Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor, Janice Holstein said.
“Council was thrilled to see this upgrade, one that offers both improvements to traffic flow and pedestrian safety, come to life.
“Throughout the course of the project, Council has widened the pavement along the access road to achieve a consistent width for two-way traffic, improved the access point and increased the total number of sealed carpark spaces.
“There is also improved road signage, as well as a defined drop-off and pick-up area,” she said.
Cr Holstein said the facility services a variety of groups from across the Lockyer Valley.
“The sporting complex and park are utilised by several sporting clubs and community groups, including soccer, martial arts, basketball and school sports, as well as for a range of community events and functions.
“The venue is also able to be used as a community shelter in times of natural disaster.
“This will be an exciting upgrade for not only Withcott, but the entire Lockyer Valley,” Cr Holstein said.
Federal Member for Wright, Scott Buchholz said he was proud of the contribution the Federal Government was able to make in partnership with the Lockyer Valley Regional Council for locals in Withcott.
“These upgrades at Springbrook Park at Withcott undertaken by the Council will improve accessibility at the park and transform the space for local residents," Mr Buchholz said.
“Our funding under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund is making the upgrades possible, with $450,000 in Australian Government funding for the project, which has improved accessibility with upgrades to the access road, improved road signage, a new drop-off area and additional carparks," Mr Buchholz said.
“This will provide a vital boost for our local Withcott community, by giving the area an improved parkland that will benefit residents for years to come,” Mr Buchholz said.
