Council welcomes delegation from Indonesia
Lockyer Valley Regional Council has today hosted a delegation from Indonesia, who were in the region to learn more about the Water For Lockyer Project.
The group met with Lockyer Valley Regional Council Deputy Mayor, Cr Jason Cook and Council representatives.
The delegation was intrigued to hear more about agricultural water use issues, and in particular hold a discussion about the Water For Lockyer Project, including what it involves and the challenges.
Cr Cook was on hand to address the group, while also explaining the significance of water certainty to the region.
He explained the importance of the region as a food bowl, as Australia runs north-south seasonal nature of production, while also putting the spotlight on the region’s stellar soil, proximity to major populations and desirable transport routes.
“This was a great opportunity to really drum home the fact water is not just about supply; it is also about demand and the Lockyer Valley Water Project shows the potential solutions.
“The Project has the potential to provide a supply certainty, which is a critical factor for premium customers.
“We also discussed Grantham in the context of water and disaster and adaptation, and just what was involved in its relocation,” he said.
The group were taken for a tour of a Lockyer Valley irrigation facility, and an SEQ Water asset.
The two-week course, titled Aust Awards Indonesia - Water Utility of the Future, was conducted on behalf of DFAT by Griffith University International. Throughout their time in Australia, the 27 delegates will visit a range of locations across Australia to further their knowledge on water supply, wastewater management issues and how to tackle them.
