Breast Cancer Awareness Month an important cause for LVRC
Lockyer Valley Regional Council has once again joined others in supporting women’s health awareness month under the Pinktober global health campaign.
Throughout October, Council staff have chosen to honour the brave warriors who are fighting, or have lost their battle with the insidious disease that is breast cancer.
In addition, Council’s Mayor, Tanya Milligan, several councillors, staff and SES volunteers also dyed their hair pink to mark the cause.
Mayor Milligan said the month of October was all about going pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
“Once again, our team at Council is conducting a range of internal fundraising efforts to support our local cancer support group.
“We are committed to supporting the fight against Breast Cancer and encourage both men and women to spread the awareness of early screening and detection of this deadly disease.
“Breast cancer impacts all of us, our families, friends, neighbours and co-workers, and we all need to be aware of this disease, our individual risks, what we can do to reduce our risks and resources available for support.
“Awareness is vital for early detection and treatment – be it for women, and men,” Mayor Milligan said.
Staff will sport pink throughout the month, donating a gold coin each time they do so to support efforts to combat the impacts of breast cancer.
“All funds raised will be forwarded directly to the Lockyer Valley Cancer Support Group, to help make a tangible difference right here in the Lockyer Valley.
“The cancer support group assists cancer patients with transport to appointments as well as providing a safe group to chat about the impacts of this disease.”
