Lockyer Valley Community Forum on soon
You’re invited to join Council for our third and final Community Forum next month, aimed at fostering a more inclusive approach to disaster resilience.
Come along for an opportunity to discuss the various ways of developing strategies that will help all members of the community to understand their risks and learn what steps they can take to improve their safety and wellbeing during disasters.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council, together with Queenslanders with Disability Network and Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction in Australia are working together to deliver this Forum.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan is encouraging residents to come along, saying the community event would put a spotlight on how to plan and prepare.
“Ensuring you can be well prepared before a disaster strikes, maintain ‘business as usual’ or rebound quickly following a severe weather event is critical to your organisation and the people you serve.
“That is why Council is working with other specialists to put the spotlight on how to build a more inclusive, disaster-resilient community.
“Disasters undoubtedly pose a disruption to many parts of our lives and community.
“This is especially true of our most vulnerable community members, which is why it’s crucial people with disability or additional needs and their carers and supporters are included and considered in disaster preparedness and management and know what they can do to be better prepared.
“It’s also important that businesses, community organisations and service providers find the right balance to ensure you continue to deliver the essential services and support your community,” Mayor Milligan said.
WHEN: Monday, 6 November, 9.30am – 3pm
