Waste collection services over the holiday period
Christmas is upon us once again and Lockyer Valley Regional Council is assuring residents waste collection services will remain unchanged throughout the region this festive season.
Council’s Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Councillor for Waste, Cr Jason Cook said Council was committed to maintaining waste services over the Christmas and New Year period.
“It really is business as usual over the holiday time,” Cr Cook said.
“Bins will still be serviced on all public holidays over the Christmas and New Year break.
“However, bin services will commence at 5am Christmas Day, so we’re asking residents and businesses with a Monday bin collection to ensure they put their bins out the night before to avoid a missed collection.
“All other bin services will start at 6am and will operate as normal over the Christmas and New Year period.
“Council’s waste facilities will also be open over the festive period, with the only exception being Christmas Day,” Cr Cook said.
With an increase in waste and recyclable material over the holiday period, Cr Cook asked residents to make a conscious effort to place their waste in the correct bin.
“Christmas cards, wrapping paper and boxes, plastics, glass, and aluminum cans/aerosols are all recyclable if placed loosely in your yellow lid bins, while Christmas paper with the foil backing, tinsel, ribbons/string and soft plastics are not,” he said.
The Gatton Tip Shop will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Otherwise, trading hours are 8.30am - 4pm on Monday to Friday and 8.30am - 2.30pm on Saturdays.
