Region celebrates Christmas at Lockyer Valley Christmas Carnival
The rain didn’t dampen the Christmas spirit of the Lockyer Valley community on Friday night, with crowds flocking to North Street in Gatton to celebrate the season at the 2023 Lockyer Valley Christmas Carnival.
North Street transformed into a true-blue Aussie Christmas for the annual event, with a festive offering of activities, games, live entertainment, Christmas markets and more for crowds to enjoy.
Lockyer Valley Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said the event is a special one on the region’s social calendar.
“This event brings so much joy and it was wonderful to see that on Friday night.
“Coming together as a community is so special and is also an opportunity to reflect on the year that was.
“Santa and his reindeer made a special appearance, while the Plum Pudding Competition was also a huge hit.
“The inflatable games zone was full all night, while more than 50 letters to Santa were mailed to the North Pole.
“Ten entrants put their hands up for the Plum Pudding Competition, with last year’s runner-up taking victory this year in just 3min 49secs.
“The stage program featured performances by local dance groups and a mix of traditional Christmas carols and other great songs performed by local musicians, while the Gatton Lions Club, Gatton Scouts, the Rotary Club of Lockyer Valley and Girl Guides were on hand to ensure everyone left with a full Christmas belly,” Mayor Milligan said.
As the Foundation Sponsor of the “Your Town” promotion, Mayor Milligan said the flow-on effects were felt throughout the entire region.
“Shopping local means supporting local jobs, keeping local jobs and cementing the economic prosperity of the region,” she said.
Local shops participated in the competition, seeing an influx of residents choosing to shop local this Christmas. Congratulations to the six winners of the draw, who walked away with $1000 each.
