Plenty on offer at Lockyer Libraries these school holidays
School holidays have begun, and Lockyer Valley Libraries is your one-stop-shop for activities and events to keep your children entertained throughout the summer break.
What’s on offer includes:
- Summer Reading Club – From 1 December 2023 to 19 January 2024, pre-school and school age children can join the Summer Reading Club to go into the draw to win great prizes – the more you read, the more chances you have to win! Grand prizes drawn on Friday 19 January 2024. Bookings not required.
- Friday Christmas Movies - Gatton and Laidley, Friday 22 December, 10am. Bring your snacks and enjoy a Christmas movie on the big screen. Bookings not required.
- Family Movie Fun - Gatton and Laidley, Tuesday 2, 9, and 16 January, 10 – 11.30am - Enjoy a family movie at the library. Bring your snacks and watch the movie on our big screen. Bookings not required.
- Rescue Charlotte’s Web STEM Activity - Gatton, Friday 5 January, 10am and Laidley on Tuesday 16 January, 2pm - Charlotte’s web fell and she needs your help to repair it. Work in a group of two or three to build something out of Lego to help hold her spider web up. Make a catapult to fling bugs at it. Can it withstand fake bugs flying into it? For children aged 5 – 12 years old.
- Racing Caterpillars Gatton - Wednesday 10 January, 10am and Laidley on Monday 15 January, 2pm - Join us to learn how to make your very own Racing Caterpillar. Get your whole family to join in this fun paper craft, race them to find out whose caterpillar is fastest! Bookings not required.
- Lego Boat Challenge - Make it Float Gatton and Laidley, Friday 12 January, 10am - Join our hour-long LEGO STEM challenge session. Have fun designing a LEGO boat that can float. Can you build a boat that will hold weight without capsizing? Bookings not required.
Lockyer Valley Community Services and Environment Councillor Michael Hagan said our local Libraries were always happy to help when it comes to sorting your school holiday plans.

“Be it Christmas-themed activities, movies or reading, our team has a comprehensive list of events on offer to keep you busy and out of the heat this summer break,” he said.
