Local charities benefit from Council’s 2023 fundraising efforts
Showing support for our region’s local charities and organisations is a vital piece of the puzzle at Lockyer Valley Regional Council, and the 2023 fundraising tally goes to show why.
Council staff raised more than $6000 in 2023, by throwing their support behind eight local and national initiatives.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor, Cr Tanya Milligan said Council staff undertook a suite of initiatives throughout the year to raise both funds and awareness for several important causes.
“Thanks to the generosity of our staff, we have donated money to a range of causes that will make a real difference within our community.
“As a Council, partnerships such as these are at the core of what we do and we’re proud of our staff for continually giving back to our region.
“Fundraising initiatives like these really do matter, as it provides yet another outlet for staff to further serve and support our region.
“Following the success of our International Women’s Day Breakfast in March, we donated $700 to the Veterans Cricket Club, while we donated non-perishable items to our local Leukaemia Foundation pantry drive that were turned into Christmas hampers to support affected families.
“As part of our 2023 ‘Share the Dignity’ drive, staff gifted two wheelie bins full of female personal care items to the Lockyer Valley Salvation Army, which were made into care packages.
“We grew moustaches for Movember, donated a gold coin every time we donned pink during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with proceeds going directly to the Lockyer Valley Cancer Support Group, and we raised funds for Red Nose Day that will be used to help save little lives and support grieving families,” she said.
Mayor Milligan said this was a wonderful effort and thanked all the generous employees who supported, helped organise the fundraising, or actively took part in charity challenges throughout the year.
“Here at Council, we pride ourselves on being active community members in support of worthwhile causes, because our community does matter,” Mayor Milligan said.
