Council urges community to Pledge to Drive So Others Survive
National Road Safety Week is now underway and Lockyer Valley Regional Council is encouraging the region’s motorists to drive so others survive.
National Road Safety Week puts a focus on road safety issues while also highlighting the steps we can all take to ensure a safer environment for ourselves, and other road users.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor, Michael Hagan said adhering to this message would go a long way towards keeping our community safe.
“This includes not being distracted while driving, not speeding and ensuring to never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
“Road crashes result in considerable trauma that is felt across the board, including by family and friends, work colleagues, community groups, emergency service workers and local communities.
“At Council, we have around 70 road crew staff working across our region, so it is vital everyone adheres to the traffic conditions and ensure safety for those maintaining our roads.
“One road project currently underway is the extensive rehabilitation works on Woodlands Road, which is set to progress to the next stage later this month.
“These works aim to improve the safety and reliability of this intersection by improving sight distances, road surface drains, intersection layout and pavement conditions.
“Tree clearing and pipes/head walls are also completed for this section, with linemarking earmarked for completion at the conclusion of works.
“Let’s make a commitment - not just for this week but for every day, to make sure that every journey ends safely with all returning home to their loved ones.
“Road Safety is everyone’s responsibility and National Road Safety Week is crucial in reminding people of sharing road safety messages so we can instil better driving habits throughout our community,” Cr Hagan said.
