You heard it here first – the winter school holiday program at Lockyer Valley Libraries is now live – so secure your spot and make your bookings now.
Once again, Lockyer Valley Libraries will deliver plenty of fun these winter school holidays, with a host of free events on offer.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Libraries and Galleries Portfolio Councillor, Julie Reck said the exciting range of programs were sure to be welcomed by parents and carers.
“There is no denying, this year is flying by at such a speed and I’m sure many families will agree.
“Cost-of-living pressures continue to be felt by so many across our region, including our families, so we are thrilled to once again offer up a host of activities to keep youngsters entertained, at no cost.
“School holidays can often be an expensive time, but we have a range of exciting programs running so remember to grab your spot now, as bookings are available,” Cr Reck said.
- Scavenger Hunt - Monday 24 June to Friday 5 July in Gatton and Laidley, all day. Test your sleuthing skills! Go on a scavenger hunt and see if you can crack the code. Bookings not required, come in between the times listed. This activity is self-guided, parental supervision is required.
- Movie and Popcorn* - Laidley on Friday 28 June at 2pm and Gatton on Friday 5 July at 2pm. Escape the winter chill. Bring a friend and join others while enjoying popcorn and a movie.
- Did you spot it? Puppet Show* - Wednesday 26 June in Gatton at 10am and in Laidley at 1.30pm. Join Monty the Birdwatching Platypus and Jason Rodgers, author of Did You Spot It? as they inspire children to discover the joy of simply noticing the birds around them!
- Lego Challenge* - Gatton on Friday 28 June at 10am and in Laidley on Friday 5 July at 10am. Can you build a house to survive an attack from the Big Bad Wolf?
- Angry Birds Stem* - Gatton on Wednesday 3 July at 10am an in Laidley on Thursday 4 July at 10am. Create a tall tower for the Angry Birds to demolish using only the material supplied. Make a catapult that will fling the Angry Birds a long distance.
- Paper Doll Dancer Workshop - Tuesday 25 June Gatton, 10am Laidley, 2pm. Join Queensland author Eileen O'Hely as she reads her new picture book "Aisling and Amelia," an inclusive story of the friendship between a young able-bodied dancer and a dancer with a limb difference. Learn some dance moves and put these together to create your own dance routine, then make your own paper doll dancer puppet to take home. Bookings required.
- Aboriginal Art Workshop with Vibrant Connection Designs* - Thursday 27 June in Laidley at 9am – 10.30am and in Gatton from 2pm – 3.30pm. Izabella Steinhardt is a proud Gunggari woman and local Indigenous artist who has been teaching children about Aboriginal art since 2021. By engaging in this insightful art workshop your children can learn about Aboriginal art symbols and their meanings and create their own aboriginal artwork. Each student will get a small canvas to take home. For school aged children.
