Crowds revel in spills and thrills at Skateboarding competition
The chilly winter temperatures certainly didn’t deter the crowds at the Rumble AM Series Skateboarding Competition, held at the weekend.
Saturday’s competition saw talent descend on Gatton from as far afield as New Zealand, across Queensland and interstate, including Victoria and the Gold Coast.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council, together with BMD Rumble Pro Tour brought the Rumble AM Series back to the Gatton Skatepark, where the best local and regional skateboarders battled it out.
Council’s Sport and Recreation Portfolio Councillor Anthony Wilson said the event proved to be a major success.
“Many of the competitors we welcomed to the event were based outside of the Lockyer Valley and had made the trip to the region several times in the lead-up to the competition.
“Several competitors and their families commented that they often come to this skatepark as they enjoy the quality of the facility, as well as the ability to practice or compete under lights.
“The variety of competitor experience certainly added diversity to the event, with some being their first event, while others have recently participated in Olympic qualifying events overseas.
“For our local skaters, it was a great opportunity to have an event held in the region as they usually travel away to compete.
“To have the nation’s leading talent in this skilled sport was a major coup for the region – and it was perfectly timed with the start of the school holidays.
“The skillset these athletes have is nothing short of incredible.
“The crowd support for the competitors was great to see, and we look forward to hosting another top event in the future,” Cr Wilson said.
