Get Ready this weekend!
Lockyer Valley Regional Council’s Get Ready Lockyer Day will be held this Sunday.
The day is all about the community being prepared for disaster events, Council’s Mayor and Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group, Cr Tanya Milligan said.
“Get Ready Day is the perfect opportunity to talk with Council, emergency services and other agencies to understand local hazards, their impact and what can be done to Get Ready.
“We know the impact natural disasters can have – we’ve lived it many times. Get Ready Day puts a spotlight on preparing now, so the tough decisions can be thought through beforehand.
“There are limits to what can be done to reduce the likelihood of disasters in our region but there is so much each one of us can do to be better prepared to reduce the impacts of any flooding.
“Have a Household Emergency Plan and make sure your family and property are well prepared.
“Know what to do and have the things in place to protect you and your family and prepare for the upcoming severe weather season,” Mayor Milligan said.
There will be something for everyone on the day, including:
- Giveaways for your emergency kit;
- Walk over our giant map of the region;
- Meet your local emergency services personnel and volunteers;
- Check out your property on Council’s Flood Information Portal and your property flood risk;
- Talk with the Rural Fire Service about the bushfire risk in your area and to your property;
- Find out how to fill and lay sandbags correctly; and
- Activities for the kids with games and their own bag to colour and take home.
