Come along to the Summer Sports Bash
An opportunity to try a host of sports in the one location is being served up to residents later this month as part of an initiative to break down barriers and promote the benefits of sport.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council is extending the invitation far and wide for people to come along to its upcoming Summer Sports Bash on Saturday 31 August, where they can try a range of sports for free.
Council’s Sport and Recreation Portfolio Councillor Anthony Wilson said the Summer Sports Bash was the perfect chance to find out what sport might tick all your boxes.
“The spring/summer sporting season is right around the corner, and this is a great opportunity for the community to meet our local sporting clubs, learn what sporting opportunities are available in our region and what might suit them best.
“We understand times are tough, and we are committed to making sport accessible for as many of our residents as possible.
“The Summer Sports Bash does just that – allowing residents to ‘come and try’ a range of sporting options, without any financial commitments.
“We have everything from cricket, athletics, netball, golf, basketball, tennis, pickleball, softball and more on offer, so we hope to see you there!” Cr Wilson said.
All ages and abilities will be catered for.
Delivered thanks to funding from the Australian Sports Commission’s Play Well Participation Grant, the Summer Sport Bash also allows residents to connect with local sporting clubs and providers, as well as community groups and state sporting bodies, such as QLD Cricket and QLD Softball.
The Summer Sports Bash forms part of the “Sport for All in the Lockyer Valley” initiative. This project has received grant funding from the Australian Government managed by the Australian Sports Commission.
