Work as “One Team” this Queensland Road Safety Week
It’s Queensland Road Safety Week and Lockyer Valley Regional Council is encouraging residents to work as “One Team” when travelling on the region’s roads.
Running until Friday 30 August, the theme of ‘One Team’ is all about working together to keep road users safe.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Infrastructure Portfolio Councillor Michael Hagan said every decision we make behind the wheel really does count.
“Our message to motorists is that by driving smart, we can do our bit to make sure we all stay safe.
“There is a level of control we relinquish when we hop behind the wheel, but what we can control is our behaviour,” Cr Hagan said.
Tragically, 184 lives have been lost on Queensland roads (to 19 August), which marks a significant rise from this time last year, which saw 150 lives lost. Queensland’s South Eastern region represents 27 of the total lives lost, equating to 14.67 per cent.
“Many of these fatalities have been the result of speeding, or other dangerous driving behaviours.
“There are other things we can all do – don’t drive when you’re tired, use your indicator and importantly, drive to the conditions.
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and we really want to drum home that every life lost is one too many.
“By working together with our fellow community members and motorists, we can all play a part in making Queensland roads safer for everyone,” Cr Hagan said.
Queensland Road Safety Week for 2024 will be held throughout 26 – 30 August. For more information about how you can contribute to road safety see www.streetsmarts.initiatives.qld.gov.au/queensland-road-safety-week-2024/
