See the Lockyer Valley through the eyes of our youth
Have you ever wondered how our region’s youth express their emotions and experiences? How they react to events, or who they are influenced by?
The Lockyer Valley Art Gallery’s latest exhibition, titled “Togetherness” by High Schools of the Lockyer Valley looks to unpack just that.
Featuring a diverse range of artwork, this exhibition invites viewers to perceive the works through the eyes of a teenager growing up in the Lockyer Valley.
All four of the region’s high schools are showcasing their works at the Gallery, which has this year welcomed Sophia College at Plainland for the very first time.
With 175 students and an impressive 211 artworks on show, Lockyer Valley Regional Council Libraries and Galleries Portfolio Councillor Julie Reck said this annual exhibition was one not to miss.
“I’ve been lucky enough to view some of the art on show, and I must say they are nothing short of incredible.
“One of the many beauties of art is its diversity, and there is certainly plenty of that on show this year.
“Works are from students from Year 7 through to Year 12 and include acrylic, oil, pastels, watercolour, mixed media, ceramics and so much more.
“With cases of depression and anxiety higher than ever, being a teen is tough these days and art can be such a channel for our teenagers to express what they are experiencing.
“We’re again eager to present the works of students from Lockyer District High School, Laidley State High School, Faith Lutheran College and Sophia College, and we hope our community enjoys the exhibition,” Cr Reck said.
“Togetherness” by High Schools of the Lockyer Valley is on at the Lockyer Valley Art Gallery until 13 October 2024 with free entry.
